    I dont think so.
The short is called “Beauty is the promise of happiness” (after a Stendhal quote) and has no Byrne/Eno OST as far as I know.

I think Eno means the idea of pre-determination. You are not in control of your life as everything has been laid out by a deity already. So realizing you are not in control anyway, it doesn’t matter what you do, it is all meant to be anyway, it should take away all fears of making decisions. Would those with or without religion have more or less trouble shaking those fears? It’ll probably amount to just about the same although with all the dogma’s found in religion… enter fear again.

But in any religion it does matter what you do and how you behave… it is not a real surrender. Nietzsche said it all. But great tunes love them both very much

What the fuck? why you put that Eno quote in the middle of the song?

He wants to sing along, but he doesn’t feel like he has the strength, like his “heart is not enough.” What’s more, the “strange overtones,” the overt message of the song, seems wrong or corrupt to his ears, even while he recognizes the beauty of the song.

    Great video, Jon.

This song is so beautiful, and sad. It sounds to me like an old man who is getting older while the world is changing around him. At the beginning he is singing about hearing the new music that his younger neighbors are playing next door, and to him it sounds like there’s something missing, but that he is trying to find it in his heart to respect it.

Nice. But at one point it does sound slightly like it’s being sung by the paedo in family guy.

Beautiful-plain and simple! As far as the Eno quote in the middle of the song, I feel as though it ads more depth to an already complex work filled with honesty, sorrow, happiness and just being-quote offered to give the listener the opportunity to decide-BRILLIANT!

This video is way off. Too bleak, too apocalyptic, too “videoschool”; and the quote in the middle is interesting, but irrelevant. There is a “world is changing” aspect to the theme. But the tone is one of mentorship than longing. “it is strong and you are tough…but a heart is not enough”. The “old man” is giving constructive criticism. He’s trying to find the depth in the new music he’s hearing, not respect for it in his own heart.
